# Organizing a workspace (/platform/organization)

Folders group workflows in the sidebar. Use them to organize a workspace by team, customer, or purpose.

You need **Write** or **Admin** access to arrange unlocked folders. Only a workspace **Admin** can lock or unlock them.

## Name and nest folders [#name-and-nest-folders]

Use category names for folders and action names for workflows. For example:

```text
Customer operations
  Customer A
    Send weekly summary
    Check overdue invoices
  Customer B
    Send weekly summary
Internal
  Update support metrics
```

Choose **Create folder** from a folder's menu to add a subfolder. Choose **Rename** to change its name. Keep the hierarchy shallow enough that teammates can find a workflow without opening many levels.

## Reorder and move folders [#reorder-and-move-folders]

Drag a folder up or down to change its order within a level. Drag it onto another folder to nest it there. Put frequently used folders near the top.

Folder names, nesting, and order organize navigation. They do not give different members access to different branches of the workspace.

## Lock a folder [#lock-a-folder]

Choose **Lock** from the folder's menu to prevent editing. New folders are unlocked by default.

A folder lock applies to its workflows and subfolders. A child cannot clear a lock inherited from its parent; unlock the parent first. Otherwise authorized workflows can still run while locked.

Use a lock to prevent accidental changes to production logic. Workspace roles and resource permissions still govern access and execution.

## Delete and restore a folder [#delete-and-restore-a-folder]

Deleting a folder also removes its contents from active lists. Check the affected workflows before choosing **Delete** and confirming the deletion.

Deleted items remain recoverable under **Settings → Recently deleted** until retention cleanup removes them. Restore them there when needed. Recovery is subject to the workspace's effective [data retention policy](/platform/enterprise/data-retention).

A locked folder cannot be deleted until its lock is cleared.

## Choose folders or another workspace [#choose-folders-or-another-workspace]

Keep work in folders when it shares the same team, access rules, and settings. Create another workspace when it needs its own members, credentials, secrets, or resource ownership—for example, a separate customer project with different collaborators.

Use the same category names across related resources so a table, secret, and workflow are easy to associate. This is a naming convention, not an enforced relationship.
